Terminate Services Of Contractors Who Don't Deliver, Says Abdullah

KOTA BAHARU, August 2 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Thursday that contractors who do not complete their projects on time should have their services terminated.
The prime minister said that this was to ensure that there were no delays in projects planned by the government, especially those under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP).
"I agree with the Works Minister's (Datuk Seri S.Samy Vellu) warning that if contractors cannot complete their work on time, their services should be terminated.
"We want to ensure that all projects are completed according to schedule," he said when performing the ground-breaking ceremony for the second Sultan Yahya Petra bridge here.
Present were Samy Vellu, Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed and Kelantan Umno liaison chief Datuk Seri Annuar Musa.
The second bridge will have four lanes with two each on either side of the original bridge which was built in 1960. It is expected to be completed in December 2009.
The 811m bridge is the main route for the residents of Tumpat, Pasir Mas and Rantau Panjang to get to the town centre.
Abdullah, who is on a two-day visit to Kelantan, said that to ensure that a project was completed on schedule, the work must be done carefully so that problems would not arise later.
"It must be done fast, I agree, but the work must be tidy and nice so that one or two years down the road we need not repair things that have broken down," he said, to applause from the 5,000-strong crowd.
He said the government was committed to developing the infrastructure facilities nationwide to make the people's lives more comfortable.

tunku : this is another case where talks more than action. the pm said that he agree
with the samy vellu's warning that if contractors cannot complete their work on time, their services should be terminated but with the request of kedah menteri besar that the durian burung highway contract should not be terminated, the work minister considering it.if a contractor fails to deliver on time and given some levy but still fails then just terminate them.this will be a lesson to other contractors so that in future before taking any project they should analyze whether they are capable of delivering it or not.

How about PM who doesn;t deliver, fumble at everything he do and say, and sleep on his job?

Terminate?

that is the sad part, it's an open truth that everyone knows that contracts are given to associates/family/friends etc but nothing can be done to stop it.
