MB Lauds Decision To Bar Ministers, Deputy Ministers From Sports Bodies

KLANG, August 2 (Bernama) -- Selangor Football Association president (FAS) Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo described as apt the cabinet directive barring ministers, deputy ministers and parliamentary secretaries from holding posts in sports associations.
He said it reflected the government's firm stand in dealing with matters pertaining to sports development and to avoid politicking in sports bodies.
"If the prime minister orders it, we will abide by it...I see that we have to be firm in this matter...the ministers are already burdened with a lot of work and it is better that they concentrate on their jobs so that the sports associations can function well," he told reporters after opening the Klang District Community Policing Programme here Wednesday.
He was reacting to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's directive yesterday to ministers, deputy ministers and parliamentary secretaries to give up their posts in sports bodies. The order, however, does not include the menteris besar and chief ministers.
Dr Mohamad Khir, who is Selangor Menteri Besar, said he welcomed the directive as it would enable all planning and programmes for the development of sports be carried out smoothly.
"I personally don't want to be the FAS President. I may be able to contribute more if I'm not the president but the regulations require the menteri besar to be the president," he said.

tunku : i have said earlier, the ministers, menteri besar/chief ministers should not hold any position in sports or any other associations.they have much important things to do. if the regulations reguire a menteri besar to be the president for state football association than change it.
