Foreign Organisation Has Hidden Agenda To Fund Illegal Rally - Analyst

KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 (Bernama) -- The move by foreign organisation National Democratic Institute (NDI) to channel funds for the illegal rally scheduled on July 9, contains a hidden agenda, says political analyst Professor Dr Azmi Hassan.
The director (international studies) at the Centre for Technology Policy and International Studies, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, said NDI was financing the illegal gathering with the aim of toppling the current government and replace it with its own "puppet" government.
"Its objective, perhaps, is to fight for democracy in countries under its assistance, but in Malaysia, it is not appropriate because democracy is alive and there is no restriction for the people and politicians," he said when contacted by Bernama Wednesday.
NDI is one of four branches of the National Endowment of Democracy (NED), a United States-based non-governmental organisation led by a Jew, Carl Gershman.
The other three NED branches are the International Republican Institute, American Center for International Labor Solidarity and the Center for International Private Enterprise.
Illegal rally chairman Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan recently admitted to receiving some funds from NDI and the Open Society Institute, but said they were for other projects and not for the rally.
Azmi also did not rule out the possibility of NDI acting as a consultant for the organiser of the illegal rally.
Prior to this, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's former private secretary, Mohd Rahimi Osman, had exposed a letter from the Opposition leader, requesting for funds from NED for the 2008 general election.
NDI also confirmed having organised workshops, with the collaboration of a Malaysian non-governmental organisation headed by a DAP member of parliament, Liew Chin Tong.
This was confirmed by another of Anwar's former private secretary, Anuar Shaari.
"They finance party programmes, for politics or social, train young PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat) leaders, and also sponsor them for courses in the United States of America," he said.

tunku : millions have been spent on this illegal rally planning and millions more will be spend.from where the money is coming? of course some organization and individuals are sponsoring it.that shows clearly that this illegal rally is not to hand over memo to the King but more to out throw the present government thru illegal way. so police please take serious and tough action against those who participates.

Better get the head of the Professor examined. I fear for his students who may turn out always dreaming of conspirasies based on unsubstantiated facts and hypothesis.

This is the democracy that they want. A democracy not by the people of Malaysia, but a democracy that some super powers can control. Their involvement have cause a lot of havoc in the middle east. They put some puppets like Saddam and worse tries to create a rebel group like OBL, but in the end it back fired. The end result is the destruction of the country. If we are stupid enough to let ourselves be controlled, we will end up like some of these middle east countries. Poor and at war. It doesn't matter who we choose for our leaders, UMNO,PKR, or PAS , but we don't have to choose a leader that answers to these organizations. We should identify leaders who take money from these manipulative NGOs with hidden agenda and make it a point that Malaysia should be free. This should be the real call for Bersih. Let our movement of fairness and clean government come from our own people, not others wanting a share of Malaysia's wealth.
