Government Urged To Consider Burden On People Before Increasing Price Of RON95

TEMERLOH, May 17 (Bernama) -- The government has been urged to carry out an indepth study before making its decision to increase the price of RON95 petrol.
Umno vice-president, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, said the government should find other mechanisms to save on fuel subsidy.
"I believe Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has other mechanisms that can be used to bear the subsidy and increase in oil price.
"The government can also utilise other resources for the purpose," he told reporters after closing a gotong-royong programme jointly organised by the Sungai Gau Village Development and Security Committee and the Malaysian Armed Forces here Tuesday.
He said this in response to Umno Youth's call for the government to refrain from increasing the price of RON95 petrol as the public was already burdened with the increasing inflation.
On the gotong royong programme, Ahmad Zahid, who is Defence Minister, said it would continue to be carried out to foster closer rapport between the people and the armed forces.
At the function, Zahid made a personal contribution of RM20,000 to the Kampung Sungai Gau mosque.
Also present at the function was Temerloh Member of Parliament, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, who is also Deputy Higher Education Minister.

tunku : we knows that the government will bear RM18bil in subsidies this year, an increase of RM10bil if price is not increase but we hope government will find ways to save on fuel subsidy.there are other mechanisms that can be used. increase tax for luxury items, luxury cars etc but not the fuel.listen to the people.we don't mind the increase for ron97 but not for ron95,diesel and lpg.

I am sorry to sound like the opposition but they have a point actually. What about the gas subsidy for the IPP amounting to RM3 billion. No one from the goverment have actually explained it.

I support your writing. Its high time govt be fair to the rakyat. I wanna stop paying the price of chicken as if I'm purchasing the item in London! The price of chicken(sembelih)is less than GB2.

Why should we have a Minister Pengguna whose solution to all problems is price increase.

I am sadden that Cost of living is too high in my home country. Price of food, cars even cable TV... even in Vietnam and US cable TV is minimum Parking fees in KL is exhorbitant, public transport terrible and unreliable. LRT is good but the connecting buses bad.

I am a supporter of BN but uncontrollable price increase in daily expenses making me so angry with the GOvt. Sabri's proposal for rakyat to reduce intake of sugar is pure stupid!

Now if Govt increase RON95, I will support Opposition no matter what party they are ....

Dear Tunku,

The people must come first. Since independence in 1957 the GDP of this country has increased by almost 15 times but our wages has at best has increased by 4-5 times.Keeping wages down was the plan of YAA Tun, I hopes he recovers soon, to utilise the money saved through low wages for the development of the country. There is nothing wrong with that and the wokers of Malaysia have made a huge sacrifice in the interest of the country.

Now the time has come for Malaysian workers to also enjoy the fruits of our labour. Some of us spend the annual salary of a manual worker even before we wake up. Fair income distribution is the key to the future political and social stability of Malaysia. Subsidies is not the answer. Government must reduce the waste and our wage policy must change if we are to achieve Vision 2020

There are many countries in this region that were in a similar position as us in the early 60s that have achieved high income status. We will be well advised to look at them and correct the mistake before it is too late.
