KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Wanita chief Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz revealed a transition plan for the party wing on Monday.
Rafidah said she will stand for election this year and hand over the chief's post to deputy Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil in mid-2009.
Rafidah also asked members to support her decision not to have any contest for the top two posts.
Some quarters in Wanita Umno had been proposing a transition plan for its two top women leaders along the lines of the 2010 handover of power between Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The transition formula is believed to be a compromise solution of sorts for the women’s wing because Rafidah has indicated that she wants to stay on for another term while Shahrizat has told her supporters that she is ready to challenge Rafidah for the Wanita leadership at this year’s party polls.
Shahrizat said she accepted Rafidah's decision to step down as chief and not to have contests for the top two posts in the upcoming party polls.
tunku : the only good thing rafidah did is she set it a year earlier than pak lah. the best is she make way this december and let the delegates decide on who they want as their new chief and deputy.rafidah has lost her charm and zest, she's no longer the iron lady she was.

Can't agree more. Maybe it would be good if she hand over the position earlier to Shahrizat. She is indeed lost her charm and zest, and no longer the iron lady like was during the past time.
why there's a power transition in UMNO? no more democracy in UMNO? What happen to listen to akarumbi?
She's now the tin lady. Pity her. Under Mahathir even when she lost the Wanita post he kept her in the Cabinet. Under Dollah even when she won the election (in spite of that stupid mistake in not signing the nomination form) she got the boot. Now ask her who was the gentleman ?
