Umno, BN Should Dare To Make Changes - Najib

JOHOR BAHARU, May 24 (Bernama) -- Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) should have the courage to make changes suitable to the old, middle age and new generations, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Friday night.
Taking several political parties in other countries as examples, he said the changes were crucial so that the people did not reject Umno and the BN.
"We can make improvements because Umno and the BN are good brands. Don't lose hope and get frustrated. We must build the confidence that Umno and BN are platforms for our struggle," he said at a function hosted by the former people's representatives council (Mubarak) Johor chapter here.
He said the 12th general election had changed the country's political landscape which called for the leadership of Umno and the BN to do a soul-searching and identify the factors which led to the party's failure in several sates.
Najib said people are like the customer and customer is king and, thus is always right.
"The first step that should be taken is to open our ears and minds and listen to the people's voices. Perhaps, there are voices saying we have been in power for far too long and have grown arrogant with power.
"Maybe for us, it was not true but maybe it was true according to people's perception," he said.
Therefore, he said, the present leadership in Umno and the BN should be more humble though sitting on high places so that they were always popular among the people.
Mubarak president Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang said in his speech that the organisation set up 10 years ago would always support the present BN leadership.
He also urged the BN leadership to avert in-fighting so that a split would not occur and create opportunities for the opposition to cause trouble to the BN.
Present at the function were Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman and Mubarak Johor chapter president Datuk Wira Jaafar Hamzah.

tunku : that is what everyone has been saying.umno and bn should dare to make changes and to start with, get rid of the rejected leaders.we need new leaders to lead umno and bn if still want to be in power.the current leaders are not accepted by majority of the rakyat.if they think they still won and has the support, then just wait for the next election, where if pak lah still around, he may be the opposition leader in the parliament and just imagine pak lah as an opposition leader , he will just keep quiet and might be sleeping in the parliament.
