Muhyiddin Denies He Will Contest Umno President Or Deputy President's Post

KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 (Bernama) -- Umno vice-president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has denied that he will be contesting the party president or deputy president's post.
"No. I have not mentioned it (contesting the post)," he told reporters after a function to celebrate Umno's 62nd anniversary at the Dewan Merdeka, Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), here today.
Muhyiddin, who is also International Trade and Industry Minister, made the denial in response to a front-page report in 'The Star' which said that he might go for one of the top two posts in the December party elections if he receives grassroot support.
In the report, he was quoted as saying that he had received a lot of feedback from the grassroots, advisers and proposers who told him that it was time for him to move up the party hierarchy.
Muhyiddin who had tried to avoid the reporters waiting for him at the PWTC but was cornered, said he had not made any decision with regards to his position in the party.
"I did not say that I would be contesting any post (during the newspaper interview). In the current situation, everybody is focusing on the party." Muhyiddin, who is Pagoh Umno division chief, said it was still a long way for him to decide whether to contest any post as the party elections would only start in July (at the branch level).
Asked whether he would contest a higher post if there were enough nominations, Muhyiddin said: "It's not time yet (to decide), still a long way. Let the delegates decide."

tunku : this is the time muhyiddin,it's not the time to play games.if you announce it, you'll get enough support as there is support for you even if you go for presidency post.don't let us down.

"Have not mentioned" does not necessarily means "will not".

And "It's not time yet (to decide), still a long way. Let the delegates decide," can also be understood as "not time yet (to announce)"

Btw, he has been denied the DPM post simply because Dr M made his preference choice before even Pak Lah made an announcement to fill up the DPM post then.

I share Tunku's hope that TS Muhyiddin(TSM) will contest one of the two top post in UMNO, preferably the NO.1 post. I know he is playing hide and seek simply because if he commits now, he will be severely punished by the UMNO big guns. At this moment, TSM is the only next generation leader who makes sense, when he talks, he talks with understanding and maturity. He touches on peoples' feelings, their hopes and aspirations. He doesn't play the crowd esp the UMNO crowd simply to position himself for the Dec UMNO election. This is a trait of a good leader and meets all the requirements listed by TDM. Another very relevent point that I hope will be taken up by womens' organisations is that to remind the spouses and their family members that the appointment of their husband or their father as the PM DOES NOT MEAN the whole family has a right to advise/interfere/intercede on governmental or party decision making process or to lobby/protect
certain vested parties. For by doing so, they are causing harm to the nation's elected government and representatives and will eventually erode the confidence of the rakyat in the government. For this reason alone, my choice goes to TSM, if you know what I mean...
