Underworld Behind Sand Theft, Vice And Illegal Gambling, Claims Khir

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 (Bernama) -- An underworld movement is behind sand theft, vice and illegal gambling activities in Selangor, claims former Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohammad Khir Toyo.
Khir further claimed it was this group that helped certain candidates win in the last general election so that it could continue with its activities unhindered.
He said, when he was menteri besar, only 700 licences were approved to operate gambling outlets, cyber cafes and spas but according to National Security Council statistics, Selangor was now estimated to have over 4,000 such outlets that were operating illegally.
"If we were to look at the front pages of newspapers today...it seems there is a link between politicians and the underworld...," said Khir in commenting on the front page headline in Utusan Malaysia reading "Kongsi gelap taja YB" (Underworld being sponsored by elected representatives).
Khir told this reporters after launching Yayasan Bakti Khidmat Masyarakat Malaysia's charity smart card "U Pay", here Wednesday.
He also alleged that illegal massage parlours were not only operating in urban areas but in the rurals as well.
"Not only in Puchong, but even in places like Sabak Bernam, Sungai Besar and Sekinchan. I am not sure if the people in Sungai Besar are always having body aches," he said,.
Khir also questioned why revenue from sand sales in Selangor only amounted to RM4 million when the government under his leadership had projected an annual turnover of RM200 million for the commodity.
He added that he was raising these issues to reprimand the current government so that it would rectify weaknesses and not because he was jealous.
Besides all these, Khir was also of the opinion that Selangor would become bankrupt if its efforts to attract investments continued to fail.
He added that the current government only managed to attract RM4 billion in investments last year whereas when he was menteri besar, the state managed to bring in RM11.8 billion in investments.
Federal Police CID director Datuk Mohd Bakri Zinin, when contacted by Bernama about the allegations, said anyone with information or evidence of such nature should come foward to assist police commence investigations.
"We cannot simply initiate investigations based on the claims of people. They must come forward and lodge a report and supply the information or evidence they have," he said.

tunku : since pakatan came to power in selangor no doubts all the illegal activities became some what legal.pubs can even operates in condominiums.don't talk about other things.this is what when you let gangsters govern you.the worst part is the state is not making enough money as all the activities are illegal, thus no tax whatsoever can be collected but the people who let the illegals activities operates becoming richer and richer.
khalid on the other hand, the so called corporate figure failed tremendously in bringing FDI to selangor, that is why he wants to use selangor's zakat money for the state development.

Pakatan Rakyat Capitalises On Reverse Psychology Strategy - Muhyiddin

MUNYONYO (Uganda), July 28 (Bernama) -- Pakatan Rakyat is trying to capitalise on a reverse psychology strategy when its leaders say that the alliance would not break up despite pressure from the Barisan Nasional (BN), Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Tuesday.
"They try to cover up by saying that there is no problem but you can see what is happening in Penang, Kedah and Selangor," he told Malaysian reporters covering the 19th Global Smart Partnership Dialogue here.
Muhyiddin said there were serious differences between them in terms of ideology and working arrangements on many issues.
He was commenting on Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's statement in Singapore that the alliance would not break up despite the pressure of "growing under a magnifying glass".
"They try to cover up but we know the situation in Malaysia, and their relationship is not so good as when they first got together after the general election," he said.
Commenting on a report quoting Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim as saying that Selangor would conduct its own probe into allegations of misappropriation of state funds as it had nothing to hide, Muhyiddin said the state government was at liberty to do so but "it is for their own consumption".
"It doesn't make any difference as there is clearly vested interest in the probe," he said.
Muhyiddin asserted that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) was an independent body and everybody, including the Selangor government, should wait for the outcome of the investigations.
Khalid had also said that the results of the Selangor investigation would be made available to anyone who wanted it, including the MACC.

tunku : they are trying hard to cover up but the smell is so stinking.what khalid did is to cover up the misappropriation of state funds by it's exco members.that is why he formed internal team to investigate.by right he should let macc to conduct the investigation.the internal team can change their finding to please the people.

Police Remove Ah Long Stickers, Posters

KAJANG, July 28 (Bernama) -- In their protracted fight against the 'ah long' (loan shark) menace, the police have removed over the past week, about 3,200 stickers and posters offering illegal loans in the Hulu Langat district.
Kajang police chief ACP Shakaruddin Che Mood said policemen had been instructed to destroy such stickers and posters in the district.
He said he had called about 50 telephone numbers found on numerous posters put up by the 'ah long' but those on the other end of the line gave many excuses in not wanting to meet him.

tunku : it is high time for all the council in the country to make a new law on those who putting up the stickers.it is such a mess and ugly scene.they simply stick it anywhere they like.sometimes on the road sign till we can't read the sign at all.the council should call those numbers by pretending want to take a loan. once you get the person, straight away charge him for making the town or city dirty. i wonder what makes ACP Shakarudin think that the ah long will want to see him? get rid of those stickers first.make a new law on it and charge them or put them behind bars.

Opposition Parties Want To Meet PM To Discuss Pressing Matters

KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 (Bernama) -- Leaders of the opposition parties want to have a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak immediately to discuss several pressing matters including the role of the Royal Commission to investigate the death of a political aide to a Selangor State Executive Councillor, Teoh Beng Hock.
Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the opposition pact wanted the scope of the commission to be widened and not confined to the investigation process only.
"We want the commission to also investigate the cause of Teoh's death," the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor told reporters after chairing a meeting of the Pakatan Rakyat Leadership Council at the Parliament House, here Tuesday.
Anwar said the meeting also hoped to get Najib's views so that he would agree to abolish the Internal Security Act (ISA).

tunku : we hope najib will not (which i believe he won't) entertain them on such issues which is already being set.just ignore them especially anwar ibrahim. why he wants to meet najib in the first place? do pakatan rakyat believe that najib can help them, if yes then they better support BN then.maybe anwar can see kj or pak lah on ISA issue as they have something in common about it.maybe anwar can persuade both of them joining pkr.

Give us the option, say parents

KUALA LUMPUR: More than two-thirds of parents with children studying in Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Daman-sara (SKBD) want the school to be given an option to continue teaching Science and Mathematics in English after 2012.
The parents put their views across via ballot papers, which saw 461 agreeing to the proposal. Only 12 objected.
The school's Parent-Teacher Association president, Seth Yahya, said a report on the proposal would be submitted to the prime minister within two weeks.
"We will also give copies of the report to the education minister and the ministry's secretary-general," he said after an extraordinary general (EGM) meeting yesterday.
Seth said the proposal should not be mistaken as an act of defiance to the government's decision to revert to the teaching of Maths and Science in Bahasa Malaysia.
The association accepted the decision, he said, but urged the government to allow schools with PTAs that shared the same views as SKBD to continue teaching the two subjects in English (PPSMI).
"Schools that have benefited from the policy should be permitted to continue to do so."
The proposal also includes changing the school's status and name from SKBD to SK (SMI)BD. The SMI would stand for "Sains Matematik dalam Inggeris (Science and Mathematics in English)".
Several observers from different schools also attended the EGM.
One of them was Toh Boo Huat, 48, from Kampung Tunku, who stayed for the 90-minute meeting. He was determined to start the ball rolling in his son's school.
"Since the decision to abolish PPSMI was made, I've had sleepless nights fearing for my son's future. Before making any big decision, the government must get the views from parents nationwide and not from street demonstrators," he said.
Ruhana Hashim, 47, who is a committee member of SK Sri Hartamas, said all 40 parents she had interviewed wanted the PPSMI policy maintained.
"Those who made the most noise against the policy were the linguists. What happened to the doctors and the technical people like engineers? Why didn't they speak up for PPSMI?"
Another concerned parent was Azura Yahya, who said PPSMI boosted her children's interest in both subjects because they could relate to many books and documentaries from the "Learning Channel" on Astro.
"It is very important to keep the children interested in these subjects as this in turn will make it easier for them to process the information."
For 44-year-old Mazidah Mohd Zain, a mother of four, her worry was for students currently in Year Six.
"They would have learnt Math and Science in English for almost a decade and when they enter Form Four in 2012, they may have some trouble switching back to Bahasa Malaysia.
"As parents, we want the ministry to tell us what to expect in 2012. Things are still unclear," she said.

tunku : we hope that every school will have this meeting and let the parents vote.I am 100% sure majority wants PPSMI. the government should listen to the parents not the ngo's and the so called "pejuang bahasa". muhyiddin you need to listen to us. please visit : http://pagemalaysia.blogspot.com/

Kit Siang lodges report on death threat to MCA chief

PETALING JAYA, Mon: DAP veteran leader Lim Kit Siang today lodged a police report on the death threat received by MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters here.
"It is Ong who should have lodged the police report but as he dare not do so, I am performing my public duty to lodge it on his behalf for his safety," Lim said.
"Whatever our political differences, I do not want to see any harm to come to Ong," he told a press conference after lodging the police report at 12.30pm.
Lim also said that he had appended the Chinese and English language media reports on the alleged death threats that Ong received, to his police report.
"How can a minister be under a death threat? He is saying that the "dark forces" have also reached the Cabinet and the Cabinet is being undermined and coerced. This is a matter of great public interest.
"Whether he is telling the truth or not, it is up to him now to cooperate with the police and let them investigate," Lim said.
He hopes the MCA president will do his bit and provide police with facts and evidence to substantiate his serious allegations.
Yesterday, the Sunday Star reported that the death threat read: "If you're wiped out from this world some day, you should know why this has happened."

tunku : this is what you called an mp without better things to do.he should put all his effort in helping the rakyat but no, he likes to poke his nose in other people's business.this is the standard of lim kit siang.

It Is Between State And Federal Government - Nik Aziz

KOTA BAHARU, July 27 (Bernama) -- Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said his readiness to mend fences was not in the context of PAS with Umno but between the state government and the federal government.
Spelling out that press reports on his statement was inaccurate, he said, "What I am taking about is (relations) between government and government. What is the point of forging cooperation with Umno?
"It is the responsibility of the federal government to work hand in hand with the state government despite the differences in ideologies," he told reporters after visiting the Kelantan Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Carnival 2009 at Padang Perdana here Monday.
Nik Abdul Aziz, who is also PAS spiritual leader, said he did not want to renew ties between PAS and Umno that was forged during the reins of second prime minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein.
(PAS joined Barisan Nasional (BN) in 1974 but was removed from the coalition four years later.)
"Let me clarify again, the cooperation with Umno does not arise. It is the responsibility of the federal government to assist the Kelantan state government.
"This includes providing allocations. We are not asking but this is stated in the constitution," he said.
He said as such relations between the federal government and the state government through the officers should be enhanced for the well-being of the people.

tunku : what a cunning old man. he knows that kelantan needs money from the federal, that's why he wants cooperation between the state and federal government.sometimes he forgets that federal government is BN government which he strongly rejects(umno) any cooperation or forging any ties with pas.what Tun Mahathir said is right, we have to be careful with pas, don't fall into their trap.
kelantan is your responsibility not the federal's. if you can't take care of it, RESIGN.try to be a true ulamak, not a political ulamak.

Housemaids From China Depends On Agreement From Everyone

TAIPING, July 26 -- The decision whether the government will allow the entry of housemaids from China into the country will depend on the agreement from everyone who has interests in the matter, said the Minister of Human Resources, Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam.
On whether foreign maids would be sourced from China, he said the matter had cropped up on previous occasions but could not be carried out due to protests from various quarters.
“Wanita MCA has also informed me that it is not in favour
He said so far the government had not made any decision on the suggestion made by the Malaysian Association for Foreign Housemaid Agencies (PAPA), adding that there were quarters that had opposed the suggestion.
"We have not made any decision but there is a possibility that we will open the door to other countries to supply their nationals as housemaids in this country," he said at a function here Sunday.
PAPA president Datuk Raja Zulkepley Dahalan had said on June 23 that the move would ease the dependency of Chinese employers in the country on housemaids from Indonesia and at the same time minimise the problems of abuse against the housemaids due to the problems of language, culture and religion.

tunku : if it is convenience and cheaper for us to have maid from China, then we should bring them.why we have to follow the wish of Wanita MCA ?we should outsource from other countries too.india, china etc can be our new source of getting maids, language can be taught. filipino maids are too expensive and the indonesian maid agencies are killing us with their service charges yet no guarantee of the maid.

Former MIC Vice-president S.S Subaramaniam Joins PKR

KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 (Bernama) -- Former MIC vice-president Datuk S.S Subramaniam joined the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Saturday.
The decision came exactly a week after former MCA vice-president Datuk Chua Jui Meng decided to cross over to the same party.
In confirming this on Saturday, Subramaniam said he joined PKR for the sake of unity as the party brought together all races in the country.
"I feel this is the party for the future. I join the party on my own free will," he said when contacted.
Subramaniam also dismissed allegations that he joined the party after being offered a certain position in the party.
"I was not promised any position (in PKR). I just joined as an ordinary member," he said.
While in MIC, Subramaniam had several times been in the limelight as he had opposed Samy Vellu on many occasions, causing him to be dropped from the vice-president's post in 1994 in favour of his successor who bears a similar name, Dr S. Subramaniam.
He was a former Parliamentary Secretary of the International Trade and Industry Ministry and Segamat Member of Parliament.

tunku : where else loser can go? of course pkr.it's a dumpsite for losers.pkr is a dumpsite for those who lost positions in their party.what a good news lately as said by the melodrama queen.we hope to hear good news from the court too.

Fresh twist in Teoh’s death case

SHAH ALAM: A fresh twist has emerged in the case concerning the death of political aide Teoh Beng Hock.
Documents purportedly showing details of money being siphoned off to non-existent organisations and individuals by certain Selangor state executive councillors have surfaced on the Internet.
Documents supposedly showing names, cheque numbers and vouchers for allocations from the state assemblymen’s development allocations appeared on a blog called Truth for Teoh Beng Hock (http://t4tbh.blogspot.com) Friday.
Two state exco members, said to be already under investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission on alleged abuse of public funds, were named in the blog.
It was earlier reported that seven Pakatan Rakyat assemblymen in Selangor were being investigated for alleged misuse of constituency development funds.
They were Teresa Kok (Kinrara assemblyman), Ean Yong Hian Wah (Sri Kembangan), Dr Cheah Wing Yin (Damansara Utama), Elizabeth Wong (Bukit Lanjan), Hannah Yeoh (Subang Jaya), Lau Weng San (Kampung Tunku) and Edward Lee (Bukit Gasing). Kok, Ean Yong, Wong are exco members. Teoh was Ean Yong’s political secretary.
The blog alleged that dummy companies were paid using fake invoices for fake projects using the allocations.
Each assemblyman is given RM500,000 in development allocations for his constituency.
The blog also alleged that Teoh was forced to be involved in the scandal and that he had made copies of all the vouchers and stored them in a disc.
He was said to have given a copy of the disc to someone for safe keeping.
MACC deputy chief commissioner Datuk Abu Kassim Mohammed confirmed several state assemblymen were under investigations for alleged misuse of public funds but declined to elaborate.
Meanwhile, in Shah Alam, state executive councillors (exco) Ean Yong Hian Wah and Ronnie Liu are riled over the issue that claimed that allocations meant for the public are being siphoned through events organised in Sungai Pelek constituency.
Liu said the blog http://t4tbh.blogspot.com had come up on Thursday with a tag line Truth for Teoh Beng Hock that had a list of 172 projects and events with details of allocations spend from February 28, 2008 before Pakatan Rakyat took over Selangor.
“Some media personnel had alerted me of this blog and on seeing it, I thought the writer of the blog had taken information from my blog Colour-Blind.org where all allocations given out are posted. But on a closer check, I found that the facts given were twisted,” he said.
He added that the name of some companies mentioned were true as his office had some dealings with them to organise events but the writers added certain facts that were made up, like the percentage given to DAP assemblymen.
“At one point the writer claims that Teoh receives RM112 further to that all the allocations given the writer highlights the name of my special assistant Wong Chuan How as a contractor but this is not a true.
“Wong works for me. He deals with the district office in Sungai Pelek to ensure that allocations for the rakyat goes to the people,” he said.
Wong is a Sepang councilor in the Sungai Pelek constituency and in the blog it claims that Liu had given Wong 84 projects totaling over RM200,000 with different names of companies.
On the second postings on the blog it alleged that Teoh was embroiled in a scandal where he was forced by Ean Yong and Liu and it gave a picture that Teoh was a reluctant partner in this.
Liu added that the second posting on the blog had alleged that the DAP was involved in a subtle manner of stealing from the rakyat which he vehemently condemned in the press conference at his office at the state secretariat.
“We also find that the writer of the blog had tarnished the image of Teoh claiming that he had made copies of all the false documents and dummy companies that was set up by the DAP.
“It also mentions that Teoh had left behind a hard disk with someone which contains a stack of information detailing the corruption by DAP in Selangor thus implying that allocations were being siphoned out,” he said.

An irate Liu also questioned why his name was being dragged into the blog when Teoh was the political aide of Ean.
Liu told the press that the documents on the allocations that are on the blog could have been taken from his blog and the details twisted with the aim to sow the seeds of discontent among the other Pakatan coalition members.

tunku : may be this is why teoh is dead.......... and what was tan boon hwa doing at plaza masalam that early morning with teoh? hmmmm it's getting hotter. you can cover the shit, but not the smell. can't wait for the investigation to be completed.we want to know the truth.

Ibans Demand Apology For Offensive Remarks - Jabu

KUCHING, July 24 (Bernama) -- The humble loincloth appears to be causing a political storm in the Land of the Hornbill.
It began with Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang blaming the Opposition's loss in April's Batang Ai by-election, solely on ignorant 'cawat' or loincloth-wearing voters who did not know how to vote.
His remarks, carried by the Malaysiakini online news portal on July 11, was very damaging because it was not based on facts, said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu who wants Hadi to apologise to the Iban community, especially in Lubok Antu.
Jabu, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president, said: "Even though he (Hadi) is entitled to his own views, he is proven wrong because sensible people vote for the Barisan Nasional (BN) and his derogatory remarks are tantamount to looking down on the voters' well-being," he said.
He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a rehearsal for the official opening of the new Sarawak Legislative Assembly building at Petra Jaya here by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin on Monday.
In the April 7 state by-election, BN retained the Iban-majority seat after political novice Malcolm Mussen Lamoh defeated former five-time Lubok Antu Member of Parliament Jawah Gerang of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
Irked by Hadi's comments which was made in the run-up to the Manek Urai by-election which was won by PAS, Jabu said anyone who had offended any community should apologise if he was a sensible person.
"I have covered Lubok Antu very extensively, well before the by-election, during and after it and under normal circumstances, you don't see anyone wearng 'cawat', except during traditional dances when traditional costumes are displayed," he said, adding it had been demonstrated that BN was very strong in Sarawak.
Reacting to the same issue, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Datuk Seri Dr James Masing was quoted as saying that such comments could stir racial tension in the country as it suggested the voters were uncivilised.
"Calling Dayak voters uncivilised is uncalled for. It shows just how ignorant PAS is of the situation in Batang Ai," said Masing, who was also BN director of operations for the Batang Ai by-election.
Meanwhile, Tan Sri Dr George Chan, president of Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) -- one of the state BN component parties -- said he was disappointed over Hadi's remarks.
He said political leaders should be sensitive and responsible when making media statements to avoid tension in a multiracial country.
"Being an experienced political leader, he (Hadi) should be aware of his responsibilities," said Dr Chan, who is also deputy chief minister, after opening the three-day 'Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia (SKMM) Broadband Fair 2009' here Friday.

tunku : that is how the opposition mind works.those who voted them are angels and those who don't are called ignorant 'cawat' or loincloth-wearing voters who did not know how to vote.they think all the people wearing pants voted them.this is words coming out of a party president.so disgusting.we hope the Ibans in sarawak will reject these type of politics and show them the boots for the coming state election. again they will blame the media for highlighting the stupid remarks.

Judge Zainal Abidin Kamarudin said the prosecution had failed to prove criminal intent on the part of Mirza.
The judge said the prosecution did not establish a prima facie case against Mirza.
Mirza said he was grateful to God for the acquittal.

tunku : he did not deserve to be charged in the first place.anyway good for datuk mirza to be acquitted from the charges.hope the people behind it will be charged soon.

Struggling For Race's Rights Does Not Mean Umno Is Racial: Shafie Apdal

CYBERJAYA, July 23 (Bernama) -- Umno should not be seen as racial party just because it struggles for Malay rights, said party vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
The Rural and Regional Minister said instead the struggle for one's own race was a demand and need for each person on earth.
"Just that we should see that when we struggle for our rights and agenda, we should not set aside or deny the needs of others," he told reporters after chairing a meeting of members of the Rural and Regional Development Exco (Mexclub) here Thursday.
Mohd Shafie said based on that policy Umno affliated with other parties on the Barisan Nasional platform to ensure that the welfare of other races was looked after.
"But not all we say about Malay's needs is racial, how can it be...do not view that when Umno struggles for Malay needs it is racial, it is our responsibility as Malays to help our community," he said.
He was asked to comment on the allegation by former minister in the prime minister's department Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, now a Parti Keadilan Rakyat member, that Umno was a racial party.

tunku : if it is the malay than it's always racial but if other races demands then it will never be racial.i wonder why? as for zaid ibrahim, he made hundred of millions out of umno and suddenly he realize umno is a racial party.what a disgusting man.may be too much drinking lately.

Nik Aziz Opines Holding Candle At Non-religious Function Not Haram

KOTA BAHARU, July 23 (Bernama) -- PAS spiritual advisor Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat Thursday admitted that holding a candle at a memorial came under a "grey area" in Islam but was of the opinion that it was not forbidden (haram).
The Kelantan Menteri Besar said it was not contrary to Islam if the person doing it (holding the candle) was able to differentiate between a religious and non-religious function.
"As for me, when a person of the Hindu faith or a Buddhist invites me to attend a function, I will first clarify whether it is a religious or cultural one. I will decline if it is a religious one," he told reporters here today.
He was asked to comment on the statement by PAS Ulama Council head Datuk Harun Taib that the practice was a grey matter in Islam and it would have been better if former Perak menteri besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Nizar Jamaluddin had not held a candle for the memorial held in Ipoh on Friday for Teoh Beng Hock, who was found dead on the fifth floor Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam on Thursday.

tunku : at last this tok guru gave his "fatwa" on the candle light vigil issue.exactly same like what his hatchet man(husam musa)said earlier.i wonder why harun taib the chief of pas dewan ulama had different opinion on this matter than tok guru's. as for nik aziz it's understood, anything pas do is HALAL and if it was Umno who did that, he had issued the haram fatwa long time ago.still wonder which kitab he read.

MCA: Dr M’s remarks not helping racial unity

PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Moha-mad’s claim that the Chinese are the masters in the country will not help foster racial harmony, said the MCA.
MCA secretary-general Senator Datuk Wong Foon Meng expressed regret over the former prime minister’s comments, saying they would only increase confusion.
He said such comments on racial issues would affect the harmony and did not contribute to nation-building.
“We regret Dr Mahathir’s statement that appears to criticise our Prime Minister’s initiative to liberalise the economy,” he said in a statement yesterday.
“The liberalisation measures showed that Najib had the courage to carry out necessary reforms for the good of the country and its people.
“The reforms do not mean that the Government no longer helps bumiputras. They are using another method to achieve the same target, through the setting up of Ekuinas, which aims to consolidate bumiputra participation in the economy,” he added.
Gerakan also expressed disappointment over the comments, with its deputy youth chief Oh Tong Keong saying that Dr Mahathir’s latest blog presented a simplistic yet distorted understanding of Malaysian society.
He added that such statements could provoke sentiments among Malays that they were being exploited and oppressed, while the Chinese might feel that they were superior and smarter.
Oh said Dr Mahathir only made statements and presumptions, and did give any reasons for them.
He also questioned Dr Mahathir’s claims that whatever the Malays had now was being taken away from them.
“Who has taken what and how has not been explained,” Oh said.

tunku : nowadays people don't like others saying the truth and facts. they want to listen to fictions.the truth is always hard to swallow.mca and gerakan should start joining hands and face the opposition not the other way round.

Senior Citizen Found Hanged In Rented House

TANAH MERAH, July 22 (Bernama) -- A senior citizen was found hanged from the stairs of his rented house in Jalan Wan Ahmad here, at 5.45 pm yesterday.
Tanah Merah police chief DSP Abdul Aziz Mahmud said the 69-year-old man was found by policemen who came to investigate following a report from the neighbours about the disappearance of the man and the stench emanating from the house.
"The victim lived alone in the house and based on the condition of the body, we believe that he died several days ago," he told reporters here Wednesday.
He said the body was found clad in a shirt and sarong.
A search on the house found that all doors and windows were locked from inside.
"The victim had a history of mental problems and we do not rule out the possibility that he had hanged himself. Further investigation, however, will be carried out to ascertain the cause of death," he said.
The body was taken to Tanah Merah Hospital for post-mortem before being claimed by the family.

tunku : we want a royal commission to be formed to investigate the cause of the senior citizen who was found hanged in a rented house. the royal commission should be headed by lim kit siang, anwar ibrahim and lim guan eng.

Nik Aziz Avoids Question On Candlelight Virgil

KOTA BAHARU, July 22 (Bernama) -- PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat avoided a question on the party's Perak Deputy Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin's participation in last Friday's candlelight vigil in memory of political aide Teoh Beng Hock.
Nik Abdul Aziz, who is also Kelantan Menteri Besar, instead berated on the takeover of the Perak state government by Barisan Nasional and ticked off Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.
"He (Zambry) not only went against Islamic rules but also chose to disregard democratic rules... That is my answer," Nik Aziz told reporters at his office in Kota Darul Naim here Wednesday before leaving for Salor.
Nik Abdul Aziz was asked to comment on Zambry's remarks that PAS ulama should issue a fatwa (religious ruling) on candlelight vigils like the one participated by Mohammad Nizar for the late Teoh, who fell to his death at the MACC office in Shah Alam last Thursday.

tunku : a twisted answer from a twisted tongue tok guru. his hatchet man(husam musa) had answered yesterday that it's ok for Muslim to hold candlelight vigil.this is the pas under tok guru, all the haram can be halal if it brings benefits to them.

The decision to form the royal commission was made at the weekly cabinet meeting today.
The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
The inquiry is expected to determine the cause of Teoh's death

tunku : what else to the opposition want to make noise.now for sure they want man of their choices to be in the commission.one after one.....no ending.

Ministry to look into welfare of Teoh’s family

ALOR GAJAH: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry will look into the welfare needs of Teoh Beng Hock’s family, said its minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
She said this would include assisting his 28-year-old school teacher fiancee Soh Cher Wei who has requested a transfer from Semenyih to her hometown in Batu Pahat.
“I will approach the Education Minister to discuss Soh’s transfer as soon as possible,” she told reporters after visiting Teoh’s family at their home in Taman Sri Kelemak yesterday.
On July 18, Soh said she would be applying for three months’ leave from the school where she was teaching, adding that her parents had advised her to return to Batu Pahat to be near them.
Shahrizat said as Teoh had been the sole breadwinner in his family, the ministry would look at ways to assist them.
She hope speculation over Teoh’s death would cease and the matter left to the police to investigate.
Later, when asked to comment on Soh’s intention to legalise Teoh as the father of her unborn child, Shahrizat said the power to make the changes to legalise the marriage and include Teoh as the father of the child was not within the power of her ministry.
However, she said she would take the matter up with the National Registration Department.

tunku : so nice of shahrizat and her ministry. i hope they will provide welfares to all the other dead breadwinners too as fast as they are providing to teoh's family.

Abdullah: I would have abolished ISA

PUTRAJAYA: Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi revealed yesterday that he would have abolished the Internal Security Act (ISA) if he has had more time during his term as prime minister.
Lauding Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's move to review the act, Abdullah hoped the government would be able to introduce a new preventive detention system, which placed a limit on the scope of arrest and one that pleased the rakyat.
"During my term, I had other things to focus on.
"There was not much pressure to abolish the system at that time but if I had continued my term up to the next general election, I would have eventually reviewed it (ISA) myself,"
he said after opening the Putrajaya Umno division delegates' meeting here yesterday.
Earlier, Abdullah urged Umno members to cease internal bickering in order to regain the people's trust.
"People don't want to see us fighting. They want to see us doing things to improve the country's situation.
"They want to see programmes that would boost the economy instead of reading about political squabbles."
He said Umno and Barisan Nasional would have to prove to the people that they practised democracy and catered to the people's wants and needs.
The former Umno president and Kepala Batas member of parliament said he was proud to be an Umno member and it was solely because of the party that he was able to contribute what he could to the nation.

tunku : this is what typical foot in mouth disease like. i feel like throwing out. if he had more time as prime minister, malaysia will be in major disaster. there was always pressure by opposition and ngo's to abolish ISA since Tun Mahathir's time and this old man saying that during his time there was not much pressure to abolish the system.he was sleeping all the while and let his family runs the country and suddenly when he wakes up, its too late. pity this old man, hope someone can cure his foot in mouth disease.

Candlelight Vigil: PAS Ulama Should Issue Fatwa, Says Perak MB

IPOH, July 20 (Bernama) -- PAS ulama should issue a fatwa (religious ruling) on candlelight vigils like the one participated by Perak PAS deputy commissioner Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin for political aide Teoh Beng Hock, who fell to his death at the MACC office in Shah Alam on Thursday.
Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir who said this, pointed out that a photograph of Mohammad Nizar holding a lighted candle with some opposition leaders following Teoh's untimely death, appeared in the New Straits Times on Saturday.
Zambry said PAS had many ulama including its spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat and president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang who could clarify whether Mohammad Nizar's action was allowed by Islam.
"I am not an ulama to comment on Nizar's action. Let the many 'tok guru' in Pas comment. He (Nizar) is also a 'tok guru' as he can read the Quran well and give (religious) talks and sermons at the mosques," he said.
Zambry had earlier witnessed the signing of an agreement between the Perak State Development Corporation and Red Solar (M) Sdn Bhd and TCT Inc (TCTI), here, Monday.
The lighting of candles on Friday which Mohammad Nizar participated in memory of the late Teoh, the political aide of Selangor state executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah, was organised by Perak DAP.
Zambry said he sympathised with Teoh's death and had stated his stand in his blog at www.zambry.com.
Meanwhile, Red Solar executive chairman Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff told reporters that with the signing of the agreement, Perak would now host cutting- edge photo-voltaic (PV) cell production facilities involving an initial foreign direct investment of US$250 million (RM887 million).
"This is to produce 100MW of PV cells per annum by 2011, creating approximately 1,000 jobs in Perak," he added.
At the signing ceremony, the Perak SDC was represented by its chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Samsudin Hashim, Red Solar by Rais Hussin and TCTI by its CEO Siva Sivaram.

tunku : what nik aziz want to say about it? he will issue a fatwa that candlelight vigils is HALAL in Islam as it was done by the pas members as they have to follow their brothers from dap.if it was done by Umno, he will say that it's HARAM. let us wait the other pas "tok gurus" comments on this issue.

Royal Commission Can Eliminate People's Doubt - Rais

KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 (Bernama) -- The setting up of a Royal Commission to investigate the death of Teoh Beng Hock can remove whatever doubt the people may have because the outcome of investigation by the Commission will carry more weight compared to other investigations.
Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said the request to form the Royal Commission should be supported by everyone.
"As a member of the Cabinet, I will not oppose the suggestion as I feel it is probably one of the aspects of administration that is fair and can be participated by various groups," he told reporters at his office at Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad, here Monday.
He was commenting on the request by Teoh's family as well as the call by the opposition and several political parties including the MCA and MIC to set up the commission to ensure that investigation into the death of the political aide to a Selangor State Executive Councillor was carried out in a transparent and professional manner.
Teoh's body was found at the corridor of the fifth floor of the Plaza Masalam building in Shah Alam, which also houses the Selangor office of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Teoh, 30, was one of several witnesses in the MACC investigation into the misappropriation of the allocation given to a Selangor State Executive Councillor.
Concerning the attempts by certain groups to sensationalise the issue, Rais said they should allow the authorities to carry out investigation and come up with their report.
Meanwhile, Umno Youth vice-head Datuk Razali Ibrahim said the setting up of the commission was relevant and could prevent the issue from being manipulated by the opposition.
"I agree on the (formation of the) commission. Otherwise, the opposition will exploit the issue," said Razali, who is also the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, here.

tunku : i am sure najib's cabinet will allow a royal commission to investigate the death of teoh as every single person wants to know the truth. the cabinet will discuss it this wednesday. till then the opposition should shut their big mouth and stop taking advantage.

Teoh's Death Politicised To Divert Attention From MACC Probe: Muhyiddin

TANJONG KARANG, July 19 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today the death of a political aide of a Selangor state executive councillor had been politicised by the opposition to divert attention from the investigation of its elected representatives by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
He said the death of Teoh Beng Hock, 30, the political aide of Selangor State Executive Councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah on Thursday, was politicised as the MACC conducted investigations into the misuse of the Selangor government allocations to elected representatives.
Teoh was found dead at the fifth floor corridor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam. He had been questioned by officers of the MACC which is located at the 14th of the building from 5pm on Wednesday to 3.45am the following day.
Muhyiddin, who is also Umno deputy president, spoke at the opening of the Tanjong Karang Umno Division delegates meeting.
He said it was important for Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties to strengthen themselves and not be seen as weak due to any in-fighting in the coalition, which he said would make them seem incapable in the eyes of the people they represented.
Weaknesses should be overcome so that the efforts to restore the image of the BN could be carried out without hindrance, he said.
At the event, Muhyiddin launched Tanjong Karang Umno's 1Malaysia logo which had been prepared with 100kg of padi from Tanjong Karang in conjunction with the first 100 days of Muhyiddin as the deputy prime minister.

tunku : while we want thorough investigation on teoh's death we want the opposition to stop their cheap way of politics. they are using teoh's death day and night when we don't know the outcome yet. they are using it to divert of their corrupt practice and also their internal problems. it's also shadowing anwar's case. suddenly it's all about teoh's death. we too want to know what had happened, for that we have to let the authority to do their job first.who ever did any crime should be punished. the opposition is so desperate till some of them saying it's najib's work.if this is the work of macc people, do you think they will throw him from their own building?just wondering......we hope the government will set up a royal commission on teoh's death asap.

Similar Vision, So Jui Meng Opts For PKR

PETALING JAYA, July 18 (Bernama) -- Former MCA vice-president Datuk Chua Jui Meng said he decided to join Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) because his vision for reform contained in the manifesto he wrote during the MCA presidential elections, was similar to that of PKR Advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Chua, who stepped down as Bakri MCA division chairman last Thursday, said when comparing his 2008 general election manifesto with Anwar's Malaysian agenda, he saw many areas of commonality and agreement between them.
"I see many areas of commonality...many areas where we can be in agreement and that was the thing that really persuaded me (to join PKR). PKR is the right channel for me to join," he said at a news conference after attending a PKR public forum, 'The Truth Behind the Scandals of Perak, Port Klang Free Zone and the Barisan Nasional Conspiracy' here Saturday.
Chua, who announced his intention to join PKR and resigned as member of MCA today, also said he was joining the party without any condition that Anwar should fulfill.
Asked exactly when he made his decision to join the party, he said:
"Recently. Before and after the MCA elections last year, I had issued a manifesto stating my idealism and vision. It seems the PKR manifesto is similar to my thinking in a number of issues. That is important.
"If we have an idea which contradicts each other, I will not bring it to PKR."
Chua, a former health minister, said he had never denied nor confirmed that he would be joining PKR, as many media had reported that he had denied that he might quit the party and join the opposition.
He would also submit his resignation letter to MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat later.
"He is my friend. He is a man who stands for idea and principle. I respect him for that and I think he respect me, as well. So our relatioship will continue as friends," he added.
In a related development, Anwar said PKR would give Chua a position in the party and the matter would be discussed in the next party supreme council meeting.
Asked who played a major role to rope in Chua to join PKR, Anwar said: "A number of friends...we met a number of times."
Meanwhile in KLUANG, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein described Chua's joining the Opposition as hardly affecting the struggles of Barisan Nasional (BN).
"BN's struggles do not revolve around individuals. The struggles are more important than an individual or a certain group.
"It (Chua quitting the MCA) is his right. For me, it's hardly surprising because he (Chua) did not have a place in MCA to express himself.
"I don't see it as strange as there has been a minister, previously, who left BN to join PKR," he told reporters after the Community Police programme in Felda Ulu Belitong here today.
Hishammuddin, who is also Sembrong member of parliament, said he left it to time to tell if Chua's action was right or otherwise.

tunku : where else does a loser goes.....pkr. i would respect jui meng decision if he hold important post in mca and quits to join pkr but this person lost twice in party's election.he is so frustrated and knows that he has no future in mca.that is why he joined pkr.it's all about himself.if he had won the president post,do you think he will quit mca and join pkr?

New English curriculum in schools by 2012

KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry will draw up a new English curriculum that will be implemented in schools by 2012.
“We’re calling experts from the universities, NGOs (non-governmental organisations) and various bodies to discuss how we can establish a good English curriculum,” ministry director-general Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom said when officiating a National Union of Teaching Profession (NUTP) seminar Friday.
“This will be done in a span of four to five months from now.”
Alimuddin urged the public not to worry about a perceived decline in the standard of English when Mathematics and Science are taught in Bahasa Malaysia.
“I’m sure with the new strategy of Memartabatkan Bahasa Malaysia, Memperkukuhkan Bahasa Inggeris (Upholding Bahasa Malaysia, Strengthening English) and new approaches to teaching English, standards will improve,” he said.
Alimuddin said there had also been some negative feedback over his previous comment to siphon time away from other subjects for English, adding that the ministry would consider restructuring the entire timetable.
Alimuddin also announced that five teacher training colleges would be training teachers solely for English Language in three years’ time.
They are Institut Pendidikan Bahasa-Bahasa Antarabangsa, Institut Pendidikan Guru Malaysia Kampus Dato’ Razali Ismail, English Language Teaching Centre and two others in Sabah and Sarawak.

tunku : this education ministry has the wrong idea of PPSMI, that is why they scrapped it. it was not implemented because of english language, it was implemented because of the advance knowledge of science and mathematics. why they simply can't understand this? the 2 subjects are very important and we have less materials on them in bahasa malaysia, that is why PPSMI was implemented. by the time we translate a book in bahasa malaysia, 5-6 new books already out in english. our students will be left far behind.wake up education ministry.

Pak Lah calls for repeal of ISA

Former premier Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has called on the government to consider abolishing the Internal Security Act (ISA) which allows for detention without trial.
He said the draconian security law - which has drawn negative views - should be replaced with a new legislation that allows for preventive detention and at the same time protects fundamental rights.
He said the ISA perhaps provides enormous powers and scope, which he felt could be too wide-ranging, in determining what constitutes threats to national security.
"As a former home minister, I had signed numerous ISA detention orders, and with the government reviewing the law now, I feel compelled to give my honest view on the matter," he explained.
However, Abdullah noted that Malaysia still needs a preventive detention mechanism to ensure the security of the nation is preserved.
The former premier said this in his speech at a special convocation ceremony where he was conferred an hononary PhD in Democracy at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in Kedah.
"Whether we like it or not, the ISA has been stigmatised as a negative element to the agenda of strengthening democracy and renewal in the country.
"So, this calls for the government to be brave to discard the old and open a new chapter," he was quoting as saying by Bernama.
Abdullah believed that the government must be courageous to bring about such change (abolishing the ISA) as its commitment to the agenda of democratic renewal in the country.
"I believe this is the transformation that the people are expecting, as a preventive measure should not sacrifice fundamental human rights or to be misused for a political objective.
"Perhaps one solution is to limit the scope of preventive detention to certain threats only or to draw up a new Act specifically to prevent terrorist activities, hence reducing the chances of abuse of power for a political interest," he said.
On the conferment of the honorary PhD on him today, Abdullah said he viewed it as a recognition from the academia on the vision, approaches and methods, as well as the democratic philosophy of his administration.

tunku : why he did not abolish ISA when he had the power to do so? why he put BSA Tahir under ISA? it is just because he bring threat to his son.foot in mouth disease.i wonder whether nazri will call him a crook too, but no way a dog will disobey his master but in this case you never know as we are talking about his ex master.

Darshan Lodges Police Report Against Lim Guan Eng

PENANG, July 16 (Bernama)-- Lawyer Darshan Singh Khaira on Thursday lodged a police report against Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for repeatedly denigrating and insulting him and his religion, Islam.
Darshan, 61, who is also the legal adviser of the Kampung Buah Pala residents Association, claimed that Lim had been making personal attacks on him over the village land dispute.
He told reporters at the Pattani Road police station here that he demanded that the the case be investigated for sedition.
Lim's remarks that questioned Darshan's use of his Punjabi name when he had converted to Islam were reported in Sin Chew Jit Poh on July 11 and The Sun on July 15.
Darshan said Lim had insulted hundreds of Chinese, Indians and other converts who retained their pre-conversion names for social and personal reasons.

tunku : well, when people are bankrupt of ideas, they will talk rubbish, so did guan eng.he has nothing to attack darshan.he thought by talking about darshan's converting to Islam can change people's view on the kampung buah pala issue. this guy is really a racist etc.

Govt to be firm on PPSMI

PUTRAJAYA: The Government’s decision to reverse the Teaching of Mathematics and Science in English policy (PPSMI) stands.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said any policy decision made must be consistent.
“There cannot be a flip-flop within the policy,” he told reporters after presenting excellent service awards to 399 Education Ministry staff.
Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said his ministry would study views from members of the Cabinet or anyone else reported in the media.
“We take all these into consideration when trying to strengthen the ministry’s new strategy, which is to uphold Bahasa Malaysia and strengthen English,” he said.
He was commenting on MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat’s statement that the party would make several proposals to the Cabinet on the usage of English in the teaching of Mathematics and Science.
On Tuesday, Ong had said the proposals would be to enhance the teaching of English subjects in vernacular primary schools, use English and Bahasa Malaysia to teach the two subjects from Form One to Form Three, and maintain English as the medium of instruction for Form Four and Form Five.
Muhyiddin said the Cabinet discussed many things, adding that the views of its members were important.
“The MCA president has also spoken outside expressing his interest on pushing Mathematics and Science to be implemented in English at secondary school level,” he said.
Asked if this meant the proposal had been shot down, Muhyiddin said he did not say so.
“Every decision we make must be consistent. Anyone can have a view ... maybe there is some rationale on the basis of some experiences,” he said.
Muhyiddin said what was important was the implementation of the new policy.
“I have said we will strengthen the English curriculum from now on. We would like to invite the experts in English who may want to contribute in terms of ideas or how to reform the curriculum, and even how to improve the teaching of Mathematics and Science,” he said.
Last Wednesday, Muhyiddin said the Government had decided to reverse the PPSMI policy and revert to Bahasa Malaysia in national schools and Chinese and Tamil in vernacular schools from 2012.
The PPSMI policy was implemented in phases, beginning with Year One, Form One and Lower Six students in 2003, under former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s administration.

tunku : whose views are taken when the government scrapped PPSMI? why did the government listen to those minority views and not the silent majority views. why the government did not give each student at schools a questionnaires for the parents to fill up whether they want PPSMI or not when their views are most relevant. we hope the government will look into this. visit: Parents Action Group for Education (PAGE)

Samy Vellu backs Palanivel for deputy, Sothi won't back down

PUTRAJAYA: MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said Wednesday he has endorsed incumbent deputy president Datuk G. Palanivel to defend the party's No 2 post at the MIC elections on Sept 12, but vice-president Datuk S. Sothinathan said he will not back down.
Samy Vellu also said that he had endorsed Human Resource Minister and MIC secretary general Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam, Deputy Federal Territories Minister and MIC information chief Datuk M. Saravanan and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk S. K. Devamany for the three posts of vice-president.
Sothinathan said he will not withdraw from contesting the deputy president post.
“I will contest the post as I have been campaigning since announcing my intention on May 30,” he told Bernama when commenting on Samy Vellu’s decision.
Sothinathan, 49, a former MIC secretary-general and Member of Parliament for Teluk Kemang, said he was confident delegates would vote wisely, adding every member has the right to contest.
The MIC elections on Sept 12 is for a deputy president post, three vice-president posts and 23 Central Working Committee (CWC) members.
At the presidential election in March, Samy Vellu won the post of president, uncontested, for the 11th term.
Palanivel has announced that he would defend the No. 2 post at the party general assembly, which would be attended by 1,400 delegates.
Former deputy president Datuk S. Subramaniam and incumbent vice-president Datuk S. Sothinathan have also announced their intention to contest the deputy presidency.
Many leaders have announced their intention to contest the posts of vice-president.
Two of the incumbent vice-presidents are Sothinathan and Datuk S. Veerasingham. Tan Sri K.S. Nijhar quit as vice-president last year after a tiff with Samy Vellu but both leaders have patched up since.
"I want to announce that I am endorsing Datuk G. Palanivel for the No 2 post because he is a very efficient, strong and simple man of the people. I hope members and delegates will throw their support behind him for continuity.
"I want a team which will deliver and strengthen the party and, as such, I am also endorsing Dr Subramaniam, Saravanan and Devamany for the three vice-president seats," Samy Vellu said.
On the three whom he had endorsed for the posts of vice-president, he said all three were holding government positions and, as such, were in a good position to better serve the Indian community.
Samy Vellu also said that he was drawing up a list of candidates for the 23 CWC posts and that he would endorse "several new faces".
"I will announce the complete list soon. I am announcing my lineup now to inform members and delegates that this is the team that will manage the MIC business more effectively and take the party closer to the community," he said.
Samy Vellu also said that he had taken care of the party over the last 29 years and had built it from just 120,000 members to 630,000 members and from 700 branches to 3,300 branches nationwide.
"All this was possible through constructive team effort which I established amongst my top office bearers.
"I feel that as a leader I have a responsibility to hand over the party to the right person. I have been giving it a lot of thought during the last two months as to how I want to conduct the elections and I have concluded that I will support the team which will support the MIC for a better future," he said. - Bernama

tunku : it looks like sothi is no more blue eyed boy for samy.he did not mention sothi's name even for vice president post.saravanan in his list now.till this dictator still ruling mic, mic will not get full support from the indian community.samy should be thrown out, he is rotten and making the whole party rots with him.

Government To Continue Building Infrastructure In Manik Urai

KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 (Bernama) -- The federal government will continue with its plans to provide infrastructure in Manik Urai despite losing the by-election for the state constituency yesterday, said Kelantan Barisan Nasional (BN) Election director Datuk Mustapa Mohamed.
He said the federal government would not ignore the welfare of the residents there and would construct infrastructural facilities according to its financial capacity.
"Of course the (federal) government made several promises during the election. This was because there were many requests made by people as Manik Urai is located in the interior region and most of them need government assistance such as subsidy for house repairs and construction as well as welfare aid," he said at a press conference, here Wednesday.
The by-election for the Manik Urai state seat was won by the PAS candidate, Mohd Fauzi Abdullah, who received 5,348 votes compared with the 5,283 votes secured by BN's Tuan Aziz Tuan Mat, giving Mohd Fauzi a majority of 65 votes.
Throughout the eight days of campaigning, BN had promised to bring development to the constituency including building a new bridge at Manik Urai Lama and a mosque at Temalir besides planning to turn Manik Urai into an Agropolitan centre.
"We plan to continue to provide service to the constituency as well as other areas in Kelantan because we feel a change has occurred. We do this as a task of the federal government and hope that for the 13th general election, the people of Kelantan will assess our determination and commitment to help in resolving their problems," said Mustapa.
He said the narrow win by PAS also proved that the people of Kelantan felt that they had been under the administration of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Nik Aziz Nik Mat for too long and were beginning to show support for BN.
"Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has become Prime Minister for more than 100 days. This is a vote of confidence for the PM (Prime Minister) who had carried out several innovations in policies," said Mustapa.
He said a post-mortem on the by-election would be made at the meeting of the BN Supreme Council next month.

tunku : this is what we want to hear from a responsible government.mustafa should make sure that kelantan will get it shares (not oil royalty)in developments.we believe the kelantanese too want changes.they want development in the states and for sure pas had failed to bring any for them.they can't even build a mosque in kelantan.the BN government can't neglect those who supports them in kelantan and the fence sitters.if mustafa can tackle the youth in kelantan, BN can capture back kelantan from pas.

No Need To Be Disappointed With Manik Urai Result - Muhyiddin

TRONOH, July 14 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Barisan Nasional (BN) need not be disappointed with the result of the Manik Urai by-election.
Muhyiddin said though BN lost, the result showed a significant and positive increase in support for BN.
"I believe the people are aware of the values in the leadership of the Prime Minister and the changes that the country has already undergone," he told reporters after opening the 52nd national-level Quran Reciters' Assembly at the Dewan Canselor, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, here, tonight.
Muhyiddin said the result will inspire him and his colleagues in BN to work harder and bring about winds of change in the future.
He added that a post-mortem would be conducted as usual to study and analyse details and what BN need to do to improve.
The Deputy Prime Minister also denied that BN's defeat in Manik Urai as a sign that voters had rejected the political changes and development that BN had brought about.
Muhyiddin also congratulated PAS for the victory and thanked Kelantan BN election director Datuk Mustapa Mohamed and the entire BN election machinery for their hard work to ensure BN's victory.
PAS retained the Manik Urai state seat after its candidate Mohd Fauzi Abdullah defeated BN's Tuan Aziz Tuan Mat by a narrow margin of 65 votes.
Mohd Fauzi, 50, polled 5,348 votes while Tuan Aziz, 39, obtained 5,283 votes but the victory was a far cry from the party's 1,352-vote majority it obtained in the 2008 general election.
The result was announced by Returning Officer Adnan Hussin at the Dewan Petra, SMK Sultan Yahya Petra 1, here at 9.05pm.

tunku : i am sure to lose by 65 votes its a disappointment. anyway, it was great fight and everyone knows that bn did well although they lost as pas was confident of getting a majority of 2000 votes. we hope muhyiddin will give some extra incentive to manik urai voters though bn lost as they have to appreciate the 5283 votes they got.as good will build the bridge for them.credits to tok pa (mustafa mohamad).

MCA Wants Science, Mathematics In English For Secondary School

KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 (Bernama) -- Tommorrow, the MCA will propose to the Cabinet to maintain teaching science and mathematics in English at secondary school-level, said party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.
He said the party needed to be mindful of the students in science or pure science streaming in Forms 4 and 5.
"As such, we should maintain using English as a medium of instruction in science and mathematics in secondary school-level because of the streaming," he told reporters after chairing the pre-Cabinet meeting for MCA ministers and deputy ministers here Tuesday.
Ong also suggested that mathematics and science should be taught bi-lingual (Bahasa Melayu and English), if needed in Form 1 to 3, because the students might face problems in switching languages after they moved to Form 4.
Last Wednesday, the Government had annouced that the teaching and learning of science and mathematics in national schools would be reverted to the national language, effective 2012.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the teaching and learning of the two subjects in Chinese and Tamil national-type schools would be carried out in their respective mother tongue.
Ong said he would also suggest to the Cabinet to increase the time alloted for teaching the English subject in Chinese national-type primary schools (SJKC), by using the time slot previously used to teach science and mathematics in English.
"We note that the time alloted to teach the English subject in SJKC is far less than the national school (SK). Time allotment for teaching the subject in SK is 330 minutes for Standard 1 to 3 per week, while only 120 minutes are alloted for SJKC," he said.
Ong said the party wanted the time alloted to teach English to be increased to at least 180 minutes a week because it was worried of the English proficiency of SJKC students.
"All students in SJKC are required to learn three languages, that is Bahasa Melayu, English and Mandarin as compared to SK, so the time slot for teaching English is shorter than SK," he said.

tunku : that was the purpose of PPSMI, it's about the knowledge of science and mathematics not to master english but the government got the wrong idea and of course get pressured by some politicians and so called "pejuang bahasa".to master in science and maths we need to learn it in english, not bahasa malaysia. then again, if they still insist to teach the two subjects in bahasa and other language, do it at primary level.from secondary onwards let it be in english.we hope the government listen to the majority. lastly, the best solution for 1Malaysia is 1School for all.
